If a guide still says Blue Cave SHIBUYA runs 4 to 25 December 2026, it is copying last year. Tokyo’s October 2026 ARTE TOKYO round-up put this season at 11 to 27 December, Koen-dori through Yoyogi Park Keyaki Namiki. The organiser site, aonodokutsu.jp, is still a thank-you page for 2025 (theme THE SNOWMAN, 4–25 December 2025). Until that page flips, the dated source is the metropolitan koho, not the committee. Hours are not on the Tokyo page. Last season lit 17:00 to 22:00. Treat that as last year’s clock.
Why the shift matters on the ground
A later start means the first week of December on Koen-dori is ordinary shop lighting, not the blue tunnel. Hikarie Christmas is already on, 5 November to 25 December, indoor, east side. Forest of Lights is already on, 13 November to 11 January, ticketed, cycling course. Blue Cave is the free north-south walk that used to overlap early December with those two. This year it sits later, through the 27th, past Christmas. Weekend crowds that used to hit the 20th now have an extra week after the 25th. If you wanted a quiet blue walk on a weekday before Christmas, the old 4 December opening is gone.
The path is still about 900 m of blue LEDs, free, no ticket, a street and a park avenue. Cumulative visitors were past 15 million before last season. The snowman balloon was a 2025 extra. Do not promise it. Nisshin Seifun Welna has been the sponsor pattern. Enter from Shibuya Station up Koen-dori, or from Harajuku and Yoyogi-Koen onto Keyaki Namiki. The scramble is the wrong end if you only want the trees. Street drinking 18:00 to 05:00 still applies on the pavement. A convenience-store cup is not part of the show. Photograph from the sidewalk. Stay out of the bike lane.
Two blue walks, two tickets
Forest of Lights is a 1.8 km timed course on the cycling loop, last entry 21:00, no same-day window. Blue Cave is the free street. People mix them up because both use Yoyogi’s trees in December. They do not share a gate. Omotesando’s zelkova lights are a Harajuku and Minato walk. They do not belong on a Shibuya page. Stay on Koen-dori if that is the job.
Weekday after 19:00 is still the quiet way to walk 900 m of blue, once hours are posted. Saturday between Christmas and the 27th will not be quiet. Last year’s Snowman balloon sat on the Keyaki end. If it returns, the committee will say so. Do not plan a photo around a prop that exists only in 2025 captions. When aonodokutsu.jp leaves the thank-you page, hours and any balloon theme override this note. Until then the usable date set is Tokyo’s 11–27 December. Hub facts sit on the event page.
