Tenku Yumematsuri (天空夢祭) returns to SHIBUYA SKY from Tuesday 1 September through Sunday 27 September. Last year's indoor tanzaku corridor collected more than 30,000 wishes. This year the same two pieces run again: a 46F "Sky Dream Corridor" for the whole month, and two Saturday Bon Odori nights on the 229-metre SKY STAGE, 5 and 12 September, 18:15 to 19:45.
You cannot walk in off the scramble for free. A dated SHIBUYA SKY ticket or an annual SKY PASSPORT is the entry. Web adult tickets are 2,700 yen before 14:59 and 3,400 yen from 15:00. Window prices are 3,000 / 3,700. Adult web sell-outs also kill the window. Children are window-only. Age 5 and under is free. Bon Odori dates had a 15 August noon pre-sale. Corridor dates started 18 August.
Two Saturdays on the roof, weather permitting
SKY STAGE Bon Odori is 90 minutes, twice. Shibuya Scramble Square staff dance as the named troupe. The original "Shibuya Scramble Ondo" (also called Scramble Ondo on the Japanese page) plays while visitors join the circle. Sukeroku Daiko, the 1968 Bunkyo taiko company, and Yoake no Chindon-ya walk the roof. Rain, lightning, or strong wind cancels. Mid-show stops happen. After you enter, tickets do not refund. Read the SKY FAQ before you buy a 5 or 12 September evening slot.
Crowds on those two nights trigger roof caps. Passport holders can be held. Fashion Press and the 6 August PR TIMES both flag that. If Bon Odori is the only reason you are going, do not stack a late dinner in the building and assume you will float onto the terrace.
Tanzaku on 46F, then Konno Hachimangu
SKY GALLERY on 46F hangs visitor tanzaku with floating blue lanterns. INNER NEBULAS, the all-round ceiling light, shifts colour with the lanterns. After 27 September the strips go to Konno Hachimangu, the shrine that covers this block of Shibuya, for otakiage. That close is the part last year's 30,000 writers actually finish. You write, you hang, the shrine burns.
Food sits in two places. Paradise Lounge on 46F sells crispy shrimp gyoza at 980 yen with sriracha mayo, and Banzai Cider at 600 yen, 1-27 September. THE ROOF on the terrace sells lychee and La France ramune in marble bottles at 800 yen each. A limited happi is at the 46F souvenir shop. Three lantern magnets with Hachifuru SHIBUYA meets AKITA stay on sale after the festival, 990 yen each, at the souvenir shop and at the 14F Hachifuru counter.
Tickets, hours, and the scramble underneath
SHIBUYA SKY hours are 10:00 to 22:30, last entry 21:20, unless the site says otherwise. The ticket desk is 14F of Shibuya Scramble Square, 2-24-12 Shibuya. JR, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu, and Keio Inokashira all dump into the building. Evening Bon Odori slots fight scramble commuters on the 5th and 12th. Buy the time slot that already includes the dance, then go straight up.
