The 21st Shibuya Music Festival is two different days sharing one name. Saturday 17 October 2026 keeps cars on Dogenzaka and puts programmes in Miyashita Park, Shibuya MODI, and LINE CUBE SHIBUYA. Sunday 18 October is the one the committee actually closes: Dogenzaka, Bunkamura-dori, and the SHIBUYA109 frontage become stages. If you treat both days as the same walk, you will spend Saturday hunting for a street that is still a street.
Pick Sunday if you want the road
Kenji Onishi, chair of the Dogenzaka shopping street and of the festival committee, has run this thing as a neighbourhood circuit since the station-block redevelopment gave shops a reason to pull people off the Hachiko scramble. Last year more than 35,000 people moved through 20-plus programmes. The 2026 line, "the city becomes the stage," is not a slogan you can ignore on Sunday. Buses and taxis lose those three stretches. Pedestrians get the tarmac. That is the day to stand in front of 109 without a delivery van in the shot.
Saturday still matters if your target is a hall seat or a park lawn. Miyashita Park sits on the north side of the station, a short walk from the scramble, and it does not need a traffic order to host a stage. MODI is the same. Do not assume a Saturday Dogenzaka photo will look like the Sunday posters. It will not.
The hall is a ticket. The street is not.
LINE CUBE SHIBUYA, the old public hall above Dogenzaka, is where TOKYO FM parks the paid spine. Sunday 18 October is SHIBUYA SYMPHONIC BEAT supported by BOATRACE. Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, which already franchises Bunkamura Orchard Hall a few blocks west, shares the room with STUTS, Nariaki Obukuro, and Kohjiya. Doors 12:45, start 13:30. SS is ¥8,800. S is ¥6,800. Assigned seats, four tickets max, no preschool children. Advance sales opened 31 August on eplus, Ticket Pia, and Lawson Ticket. If you want that room, buy before you fly. The street outside will still be free after the concert.
Saturday 17 October at the same hall lists a Shibuya Music Festival special with zigzag''s mikoto, a 100-show marker dropped into the neighbourhood event rather than a usual live-house date. That is also ticketed. Do not queue at the hall door expecting a wristband that also covers Dogenzaka. The two systems do not talk to each other.
TOKYO FM''s other partner pages, including Jet Stream live and the station''s kanshasai strand, sit on the official scramble site as content tiles. Treat those as extra indoor options, not as the street map. The committee email for press and stalls is shibuon@fds.or.jp. The public map will land on shibuyamusicscramble.tokyo in the last week. Until then, plan around the two confirmed hall bills and the Sunday road closure.
How to actually move
Come in through Shibuya Station and pick an exit on purpose. Hachiko and the scramble dump you toward Miyashita Park and Center-gai. The west ticket gates and the Dogenzaka slope are better on Sunday if you want the closed road first. 109 is the southern marker of the regulation. Bunkamura-dori runs toward the Orchard Hall side. If you are going to the Philharmonic show, walk that street before doors, then stay west after the encore instead of fighting the scramble again.
Shibuya still bans drinking on the street from 18:00 to 05:00 around the station, Center-gai, and Miyashita Park. That rule is year-round, not a festival extra. Eat in a shop or on a paid terrace. Convenience-store beer on the kerb will get you moved on, festival or not. Toilets are in MODI, Miyashita Park, and the station. Do not count on portable loos until the committee posts a map.
