About This Event / イベントについて
Shibuya Station on New Year’s Eve is an enforcement night, not a show. The ward cancelled the street countdown years ago. As of 2025/26 that was the sixth year. 2026/27 has no new party announcement. Treat the pattern as still off. Year-round roadside drinking ban 18:00–05:00 still applies, harder that night. Hachiko is usually boxed in, same logic as Halloween. Traffic control typically runs from about 20:00 on 31 December on the scramble–Miyamasuzaka side. Read the Keishicho notice when it posts in late December.
If you want midnight in this ward, go north. Meiji Jingu stays open overnight from 31 December. Three gates: Harajuku, Yoyogi, Sangubashi. Peak 22:00–03:00. Konno Hachimangu on Miyamasuzaka is the local ujigami, shorter, still a shrine. SHIBUYA SKY sometimes sells a sunrise slot with the shrine. That is a ticketed deck, not a street party. Book only if Scramble Square posts 2027 sunrise.
Center-gai after 18:00 is a fine, not a toast. Clubs in Maruyamacho run their own doors. That is indoor, paid, and not the crossing. Do not stand in the scramble at 00:00 waiting for a ball that will not drop.
