新宿御苑 桜のエリア

The Cherry Tree Area is a specially designated section of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, situated close to the Sendagaya Gate on the park's southern edge. It is home to approximately 900 cherry trees representing around 70 different varieties, making it one of the most diverse sakura-viewing spots in all of Tokyo. Unlike many cherry-blossom locations that offer only a brief window of colour, this area extends the season considerably thanks to its mix of early-blooming somei-yoshino, mid-season varieties, and late-flowering yaezakura. A remarkable juugatsuzakura even blossoms twice a year, in March and again in October, providing an unexpected autumn display. The Sendagaya Gate is a five-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the JR Sobu Line, and the Shinjuku Gate is about ten minutes on foot from Shinjuku Station. There is a modest admission fee to enter Shinjuku Gyoen, and alcohol is not permitted during the cherry-blossom season, so visitors looking to enjoy hanami should plan a picnic with soft drinks instead.
